Description

We are seeking compassionate and dedicated Vigil Volunteers to provide a comforting presence for hospice patients during their final days and hours of life. Vigil volunteers play a special role in ensuring that no patient faces the end of life alone. Volunteers may be called upon to sit bedside with patients who are actively dying, offering quiet companionship, reassurance, and support. A vigil visit may involve holding a patient's hand, reading aloud, playing soft music, sharing moments of silence, or simply being a calm and caring presence. Volunteers also provide comfort to family members who may need a brief respite or an additional source of support during this difficult time. Vigil volunteers do not provide medical or personal care. Their role is to offer companionship, dignity, and compassionate presence when it is needed most. This opportunity is ideal for individuals who are empathetic, dependable, and comfortable supporting patients and families at the end of life. Because vigil needs can arise unexpectedly, volunteers are often contacted when a patient is believed to be in their final hours or days. Opportunities may be available during weekdays, evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on volunteer availability and patient needs. Comprehensive hospice volunteer training and ongoing support are provided to help volunteers feel prepared and confident in this meaningful role. Volunteer Responsibilities: Provide a peaceful bedside presence for hospice patients Offer companionship through conversation, reading, music, prayer, or quiet support based on patient preferences Support family members with a caring and compassionate presence Communicate with hospice staff regarding the patient's comfort and any concerns Help ensure that no patient dies alone Why Become a Vigil Volunteer? Make a profound difference during a sacred time in a person's life Offer comfort, dignity, and compassion to patients and families Provide reassurance and support when it is needed most Become part of a dedicated hospice care team Experience the rewarding opportunity to serve others through presence and kindness The gift of your presence can bring immeasurable comfort to patients and their loved ones. If you have a compassionate heart and a desire to provide support at life's most meaningful moments, we invite you to join our Vigil Volunteer team.
