Course Objectives:
- Identify factors that contribute to and detract from effective communication.
- Develop a strategy for ensuring that emergency communications meet the needs of the whole community, including those with access and functional needs.
- Identify strategies for communicating effectively in emergency situations.
- Identify strategies for improving your oral presentation skills.

- Write down your FEMA ID
- Click this link https://training.fema.gov/is/courseoverview.aspx?code=IS-242.c
- In the top right hand corner under ‘Take the Course’ click ‘Interactive Web Based Course’
- Take the course
- On the last page of the course click ‘Take the Exam’
- Enter your FEMA ID and Last name
- Click ‘I agree'
- Fill in Mailing Info and Business/Organization (if you do not know what to select, select ’Other’)
- Click ‘Continue to Exam’
- Take Exam
- Once your exam is complete it takes 1-2 business days to process and you will receive an email with a link to your certificate
- Email your certificate to hmlayman@mix.wvu.edu for 3 hours of service credit
- All hours will be approved on iServe by March 31st
