SteppingStones is a Morgantown based non profit organization who does year round recreation and social activities for children with disabilities. One of the programs we do is Miracle League Baseball.
Miracle League Baseball removes barriers that can keep people with disabilities form enjoying baseball. We play on a rubberized surface that accommodates wheelchairs and other assitive devices while helping prevent falls and injuries. Our season runs from end of April until end of July.
The Morgantown Miracle League had 100 players last season in 3 different leagues. We need lot's of volunteers to help make the season run smoothly and to make sure everyone is getting the most out of the season as well as having fun. Below is some of the volunteer positions we are looking for:
Baseball Co-Announcer:
You will be able to assist the Announcer in whatever way is necessary to make the games run smoothly. You will have a good knowledge of the rules of the game, expectations, and learn every aspect of the game and field upkeep. This could mean helping set up before and after games, getting line ups from coaches to give to Announcer, go onto field to help, umpire, run scoreboard, be a buddy on the field and anything else that is needed.
This is an unpaid internship or volunteer basis. You would help out Tuesday nights from roughly 5:00pm-8:30pm, Wednesday nights from 5:30pm-7:30pm, and Thursday nights from 5:00pm-8:30pm (roughly 9 hours a week)
Baseball Analyst:
The Baseball Analyst will commit to at least one Thursday night game and be able to help from 5:00pm-8:30pm. You must have some baseball background and not be afraid to jump right in to help guide athletes and coaches. You will be assigned a team and lead them in warm ups. During the game you will work with every athlete on the field giving them tips to improve their baseball skills and knowledge. For example helping players know what position to play, when to run, how to better catch the ball, glove placement, getting bottoms low, etc. We will have sign ups for each week for the season.
This position is volunteer based. The season runs from May -July.
Umpire:
The Umpire will commit to at least one Thursday night game and be available from 5:00pm-8:30pm. You must have some baseball background knowledge, have a good understanding of our Miracle League rules, not be afraid to make a call, be able to work with coaches and the Announcer as well as being comfortable with our athletes. We will have sign ups for each week this season.
This position is volunteer based. The season runs from May-July
Buddies:
We are looking for volunteers to help for all of the leagues within our Miracle League. Volunteers must be able to hop in and have fun, no baseball background needed. You will help in the dugouts putting on helmets, talking to athletes during down times, helping on the field with verbal cues and making sure everyone is paying attention to the game and whatever the coaches need to help make the game flow smoothly and make sure our athletes are having fun. You can either sign up to help on a certain night and hop in where ever is needed or for more constancy you can be assigned a team to work with each week.
Tuesday nights is our Minor League-this is ages 12 thru adults and is our middle level league. Games are at 5:30pm and 7:00pm.
Wednesday night is Tee Ball-this is for ages 5-12 years old. They play at 5:30pm or 6:30pm and we have 4 teams that play each other each week.
Thursday nights is Major League-this is our advanced league where we are playing almost full out baseball but with a few modifications. They have games at 5:30pm & 7:00pm.
