This event is open to EVERYONE in the community who is willing to come out and spend a few hours giving service to others. We desperately need as many volunteers as we can get! For every volunteer we do get for the day, the Comcast Foundation will also pay us money to support camp! The more volunteers we have, the more money they will donate to support camp!
Every year, Comcast employees around the country choose worthy projects to host their Comcast Cares Day. This is one of the nation's largest single-day corporate volunteer efforts and Comcast NBCUniversal’s celebration of its year-round commitment to service. This year, we’re very grateful that Camp Mountaineer has been chosen as a site for Comcast Cares Day. Since Comcast Cares Day began in 2001, volunteers have contributed over 5 million hours of service at 7,700 projects and Comcast NBCUniversal has provided more than $20 million in grants to local non-profit community partners.
Projects at camp will include clean up after our recent timber harvest, building wildlife habitat, planting grasses and wildflower seeds, cleaning trails and general maintenance projects around camp. We will be hosting this event rain or shine so please dress accordingly!
WHAT SHOULD I BRING: Wear appropriate clothes for the weather; rugged shoes and work gloves are a great idea, and if you have rakes or shovels, wheel barrows, etc., they might come in very handy too. Remember that it’s always 5-10 degrees colder at camp than it is in town so dress accordingly!
CHAIN SAWS NEEDED: We also need people with chain saws (and associated safety equipment). If you have a chainsaw and are willing to help out, you must be BSA certified to use it on camp property. We will have a BSA chainsaw safety class that morning beginning at 8AM!
Volunteers who wish to take some great firewood home with them that day, are more than welcome to do so! We will have plenty!
