Description

On July 28-29, Marion County, WV experienced significant flooding.  The Mannington area was severely affected.

The 85th annual Mannington District Fair is scheduled for August 7-12 and there is an urgent need to clean up the fairgrounds so there will be no biohazards that could cause illness during the fair.

WVU students, faculty, staff, and alumni as well as WVU Foundation, WVU Medicine, and WVU Research Corp. employees are encouraged to participate.  Community members are also encouraged to sign-up, and may do so with the United Way of Monongalia and Preston Counties using this link.

  • Volunteers do not need prior experience.
  • Please dress appropriately with long-pants, closed-toed study shoes such as boots.
  • Weather will be hot and humid, so a hat or bandanna is recommended as is sunscreen.
  • If possible, bring protective eyewear, and rubber gloves.
  • Needed protective gear will be provided when needed.
  • Lunch, water and snacks will be provided, but please bring a water bottle.

Volunteers should meet in front of the WVU Natatorium (behind the coliseum) at 8:00am.  Parking is free in the lot there.  Charter buses are provided and will depart at 8:30am sharp.  All volunteers participating may ride on WVU buses, but must be signed-up in iServe or volunteerMPC.

Buses will return to the same location around 6:00pm.

It is highly recommended that volunteers have an up-to-date tetanus shot. Free tetanus shots can be obtained at WVU Student Health, WVU Urgent Care or the Mon County Health Department.
