Description

Over the course of 2017 and 2018, the Coopers Rock Foundation has endeavored to tackle the hardest trailwork challenge at Coopers Rock -- upgrading Scott Run Trail.  Scott Run Trail runs through beautiful forest but the trail itself is in sad condition, due to poor drainage and lots of erosion.  Our first focus is the segment of Scott Run Trail that features a rocky, steep hill from McCollum Campground down to the first bridge.  Many new drainage features such as dips, drainage ditches, and water bars must be constructed, into a trail routed along a very old and rocky roadbed.  The digging is hard.  There's more rocks than soil.  We'll be using pick-mattocks, long-handled spades, and bow rakes, with buckets and wheelbarrows as well.  The approach to the jobsite is easy, at least!  From Reservoir Parking lot, walk cross the main road, enter McCollum Campground, and turn left onto Scott Run Trail at the edge of the field on your left.  We'll be working on the first quarter mile.

If you want honest, good hard work, this is your ticket!  Wear boots, NO sandals!!  OPEN HOUSE -- come and go when you want, during our 10-4 schedule.  Tools and spring water provided.  Combine cross-training with Community Service in a beautiful setting!  Seeya there.

Inclement Weather Plan: We'll work in almost any weather, including a steady rain, which can actually be very instructive when doing drainage work, as you get to see what the water does. If there is thunder and lightning we'll wrap things up and head to our vehicles in the nearby parking lot.
