Weedy Wednesdays at North Elementary!
Come an join us every other Wednesday for 4-6pm this Spring to help keep the school garden looking good and thriving! The Garden-Based learning program at North supports teachers to incorporate the garden into their curriculum and to engage their students in outdoor learning.
Volunteer hours are outside of school hours so children will not be present. If you are a parent and would like to bring your child to help, you are welcome! We'll have children size tools on hand, but will not be doing structured kids activities.
Open to all levels of gardeners, from "I've always wanted to try" to "I have a lot of experience to share".
Tasks will depend on weather and the time of the season, but will include:
For everyone:
- weeding and pruning
- preparing raised beds for planting
- general cleaning and organizing of the high tunnel and supplies
- direct planting with seeds or planting seedlings.
- helping manage the compost
For more advanced gardeners:
- ID and label plantings
- ID pests and share ideas of how to manage them using organic practices
- Any other expertise you can share! Signage, tree care, sharing ideas for the garden you've seen elsewhere.
