Description

The Old Hemlock Foundation is seeking motivated WVU students—especially Ecology seniors—interested in gaining practical field experience in habitat management, wildlife conservation, and ecological stewardship. Volunteers will work directly on a historic property dedicated to forest preservation, bird research, and habitat restoration.

Volunteers may assist with:

Trail Maintenance: Improve and maintain forest trails; remove debris; enhance safe access for visitors and researchers.

Storm Damage Cleanup: Clear fallen limbs, repair trail obstructions, and help restore forest structure after weather events.

Early Successional Habitat Management: Support wildlife habitat projects, including brush clearing, selective cutting, and monitoring regrowth.

Bird Banding Data Entry: Assist with entering and organizing avian banding data from MAPS and migration monitoring programs.

Native Plant Landscaping: Help maintain native plant gardens, remove invasives, and support pollinator‑friendly landscaping.
