Who We Are

Old Hemlock Foundation's mission is promote and preserve the legacy of George Bird Evans and his wife,  Kay.   George was an artist, breeder of a line of English Setters, author of Mystery Novels in the 1950s and author of Upland Shooting articles and  books in the 1970s-1998.   We manage their home whose deeds are 1782 and 1783.   Their home was built circa 1815 and is on the National Registry of Historical Places.   Old Hemlock has 232 acres with approximately 3 miles of trails with a stand of Virgin Hemlock Timber, hence its name.

What We Do

We operate the log home under the concept of a Study House as an alternative to a museum house.   We give two scheduled public tours a year and others by appointment to civic and educational groups.    Students use the artifacts in the house for projects that benefit both the foundation and the student.    We provide medical scholarships,  local student college scholarships,  support the local school in literary and arts education and support the Preston County Humane Society.
