Meals on Wheels - Morgantown

Morgantown Area Meals on Wheels serves those who have difficulty shopping for food or cooking nutritious meals, regardless of age or income. Meals are delivered Mon – Fri.

Volunteer drivers pick up meals at 3 distribution centers: our Star City Building, Rock Forge Presbyterian Church or Goshen Road Church and deliver them to clients Mon -Fri. There are five routes from Star City, several from Rock Forge and 1 from Goshen Road.  About MAMOW:

• Provides 95-105 nutritious, hot meals for disabled, homebound, and elderly persons Monday-Friday; 12 receive food they can easily prepare on week-ends

•  82% are 70-100 years of age, with mean of 79.5 and median of 83

•  Receives NO federal or state funding; dependent on grants and donations to maintain reasonable rates for clients

•  Average cost of meal to prepare is $8.50, while maximum paid by any client is $5.00; minimum rate is $1.00

• The number of clients from 7-16 to 7-17 grew from 89 to 105 which represents a growth rate of 18%, thus the amount of money needed to subsidize meals had to be increased accordingly

• In addition to subsidizing each meal served Monday-Friday anywhere from $3.50 to $7.50, depending on amount paid by client, MAMOW also subsidizes week-end meals by providing two meals for the price of one

• The only paid employees of MAMOW are three cooks who prepare and package the meals

• MAMOW has ~110 volunteer drivers, substitute drivers, route organizers client interviewers, food purchasers, board members and committee members. Volunteer drivers alone contribute 64 hours and nearly 1,000 miles per week, thus 3,328 hours and 52,000 miles per year.
