Who We Are

The WVU Chapter of the Food Recovery Network was founded in October 2014 to not only help alleviate food waste, but to also educate others about food insecurity at West Virginia University and the surrounding area. With the help of student volunteers, the Food Recovery Network recovers food that is still good to eat and that would otherwise be thrown away, to donate to local charities in need.

What We Do

Since our creation, we have partnered with WVU Dining Services to recover food from dining halls and two on-campus cafes. Additionally, we recover from Right Round Farm, a local organic farm that donates excess produce and Phoenix Bakery. The Food Recovery Network then works as the "middleman" by picking up food donations and transporting them to receiving charities, such as the Bartlett House, the Rosenbaum House, and the Ronald McDonald House. This upcoming year we hope to expand our list of food donors and receiving charities in order to help even more people.
