Who We Are

We were the region's first no-kill animal shelter, and we operate an adoption and foster program for dogs and cats, along with an occasional pet of a different species. We're proud to provide refuge, aid, and care for unwanted, abandoned, and abused animals, free from the threat of unwarranted euthanasia. Animals that find their way to our shelter are provided rescue, fostering, placement, and spay/neuter services.

The Animal Friends Thrift Shoppe, not the shelter, is accessible by the Mountain Line bus. You'll need your own transportation to get to the shelter. Uber and taxi will take you there but they will not pick you up.

What We Do

We visit the local county facility in our area to find animals that are threatened by euthanasia. After a visit to the veterinarian, these animals go to live at our beautiful no-kill shelter where they receive love and all the care they need. Then we scout out potential adopters and screen the adoption applications until we find the perfect home. All of this takes time a ton of volunteers and time, but we love what we do! We accept volunteers during our business hours. Check out our website animalfriendswv.org.
