Mountaineer Educational Support Hub (MESH)

Who We Are

MESH is a student-led tutoring initiative at West Virginia University that connects WVU graduate student volunteers with middle and high school students who can benefit from additional academic support. Our mission is to make high-quality, supportive tutoring more accessible while giving graduate students meaningful opportunities to use their knowledge in service to the community. Our vision is to build a sustainable network of university volunteers and community partners that helps students strengthen their academic skills, confidence, and readiness for future educational opportunities. MESH was developed at WVU to create a structured pathway for graduate students to contribute their expertise through tutoring, beginning with partnerships with established youth-serving organizations in the Morgantown community.

What We Do

MESH recruits and organizes WVU graduate student volunteers to provide free academic tutoring to middle and high school students through community partnerships. Tutors support students in subjects aligned with their academic backgrounds and help them understand course material, practice problem-solving, develop effective study strategies, and build confidence as learners. MESH uses iServe to support volunteer recruitment and engagement and works with partner organizations to coordinate tutoring opportunities, schedules, student needs, and appropriate volunteer onboarding. Our initial tutoring activities are being conducted in partnership with the Monongalia County Youth Reporting Center, with the long-term goal of expanding access to structured tutoring through additional community partnerships.
