Who We Are
AOII's Core Values
- Character: Alpha Omicron Pi was founded on a promise to serve not only one another but the greater community as well. This commitment reflects a philosophy of friendship, concern, and usefulness in the world.
- Dignity: Whether a member chooses to serve as a chapter officer, or represent AOII as a member of other campus or community organizations, there are numerous opportunities to develop leadership skills as a member of AOII.
- Scholarship: AOII encourages all members to excel academically and has many programs designed to assist women in achieving their academic goals. Expectations are high but the support provided by scholarship programs, academic development officer resources, and fellow members makes success attainable.
- College Loyalty: From collegiate years on through alumnae involvement, the reason AOIIs continue service is the joy of spending time together and sharing the insights learned from the relationships we build and sustain.
What We Do
AOII’s International Philanthropy is arthritis and, since 1967, AOII has enjoyed a long and beneficial relationship with our arthritis partner – the Arthritis Foundation (AF). For more than five decades, AOII chapters and members have raised millions of dollars to create awareness, find a cure, and make life easier for those afflicted with arthritis, a crippling disease that far more frequently affects women. Dollars raised help fund AF programming such as Juvenile Arthritis Camps and Family Summits, Juvenile Arthritis Power Packs, research initiatives, innovative programming, and much more. Likewise, our Canadian sisters proudly support The Arthritis Society of Canada with their fundraising dollars. Team AOII National is one of the Arthritis Foundation’s largest and most successful overall teams for both of their national events, Jingle Bell Run (JBR) and the Walk to Cure Arthritis (WTCA) walk. AOII chapters and members proudly step up to participate every year to raise tens of thousands of dollars through these events and even more through AOII’s signature chapter fundraisers called Strike Out Arthritis! These fun local fundraising events might feature softball, baseball, or bowling tournaments, 5-K Runs, barbecues or other variations on the ”Strike Out” theme. Raising funds and having fun is what makes Strike Out Arthritis! so successful. AOII’s commitment to arthritis does not end with raising money. Our chapters go a step further by raising awareness every year through a promotional campaign called “AOII Goes Blue,” a nod to the worldwide arthritis awareness color of blue. And it’s always likely that AOII collegians and alumnae will be working as volunteers at JBRs, WTCAs, JA Family Fun Days, JA Camps, JA Family Summits, and much more throughout the year. To the Arthritis Foundation and JA families, AOII is proudly known as the Panda People thanks to the adored tradition of distributing pandas to all children and youth attending their annual JA Family Summit, and supporting their annual Panda Clinic where AOII pandas serve as patients allowing children to learn more about medical procedures they experience.
