Who We Are
Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Tri-state is one of over 270 affiliates across the country that creates and supports 1 to 1 mentoring relationships between every-day adults and youth in their communities who want a mentor.
Our affiliate was established in 1974, and we have grown to serve 9 counties in the Tri-state area:
WV: Cabell, Kanawha, Mason, Putnam, and Wayne.
KY: Boyd, Carter, and Greenup
OH: Lawrence
What We Do
We recruit and train adults to be mentors (Bigs), and match them with youth (Littles) in their communities that want a mentor. We consider each person’s personality, interests, and goals when matching.
After being matched, our staff professionally supports these Matches with ongoing contact. We can provide additional training on unfamiliar topics that might arise, too!
We ask for a 9- or 12-month commitment. Matches are expected to meet for at least 4-6 hours per month.
We like to match Bigs with Littles who live in the same county, so we would match any WVU students to Littles in the Kanawha area.
It only takes a little to make a big difference in a kid’s life.
