Who We Are
The Monongalia County Solid Waste Authority (Mon Co SWA) has a volunteer five-member board of directors who are in charge of overseeing the powers and duties of the Mon Co SWA. The Mon Co SWA Director gets everything done to ensure the Mon Co SWA operations are completed including all administrative tasks, finances and reports including budgeting, grants management, event planning and implementing, communications including social media, marketing, and website upkeep, research and writing and designing materials and working with residents and other public and privates organizations. We currently offer two collection events - paper shred and electronics recycling (started by two WVU students!), held a latex paint reusable pick up event to provide free reuseable latex paint to residents. We also create and provide education materials, which are created in-house except when students participate, including Information Sessions (like podcasts) for our Let's Talk Thursdays winter programming with special environmental and sustainability topics.
What We Do
The Monongalia County Solid Waste Authority (Mon Co SWA) commitment is to educate all county residents about solid waste disposal through reduce, repair, reuse, compost, refuse, recycle and the importance of litter control in order to protect the public and for environmental health, safety and welfare and to preserve the natural beauty of the county. In addition, the Mon County SWA provides information about proper disposal of solid waste, including hard to dispose of and hard to recycle items, collection and pick up events for the Mon Co SWA and other collection events occurring throughout the county.
