Matching donors must be very specific—similar to organ donation—but the process to join the registry is simple, and donation is simple and painless like giving a blood donation. To get started, register online and NMDP will mail you a cheek swab kit. Swab the inside of your cheek, mail the kit back, and confirm your registration by text. Joining the registry does not mean you will definitely be called to donate. You may never be matched, or it could take months or even years.
