Textbooks are essential for academic success but can be prohibitively expensive for many WVU students.

Recognizing this challenge, the WVU Libraries is partnering with the Student Government Association (SGA) to expand the collection of textbooks available for checkout. By donating textbooks you no longer need, you can help your fellow students while also earning one service hour per textbook donated (current editions less than 5 years old).

When donating textbooks, sign up via iServe and then fill out this form.

Student Lounge: by students, for students 

What We Do: Build and develop the WoW student lounge in the downtown library. Help with a variety of tasks needed, can be catered to your interests. Some examples of tasks done in the past: building zine kits, making flyers, monitoring remote control car usage, putting “grab n go” kits together, etc.

Who we are: The lounge is a safe space for students, by students. It aims to be a place where students can access various mental health and well being resources while also relaxing and having fun. The lounge encourages creativity and activism by having a crafting area for students to utilize and providing a place where they can express themselves.

Come and help serve Thanksgiving dinner to the Salvation Army youth club members and their families. 

Join the Guardians of the West Fork Watershed in enhancing the West Fork River Water Trail! We’re looking for volunteers to help us install brand-new signs at key drop-in and take-out locations along the trail. Below is a sign example. This hands-on project involves some physical labor, like lifting, digging, and mounting signs—but whether you can spare an hour or an afternoon, your time and effort will make a real impact.This is a great way to support river access, meet fellow outdoor lovers, and play a direct role in improving public spaces along the river. No experience needed—just a good attitude and a willingness to roll up your sleeves.

Every helping hand counts, and your contribution will be greatly appreciated by both the community and future paddlers!

Pantry Plus More (PPM) is in need of volunteers to help with: packing boxes with food, food distributions, parking & registering clients, inventorying items in the stockroom, and More.   Most needs are during the week, but some are on Saturdays.

As a volunteer at Discover WVU Tech, you’ll play a key role in welcoming prospective students and their families to campus. You might guide guests around as they explore the places where we live, work, learn, and play—showcasing everything from our high-tech labs and classrooms to our favorite campus hangouts.

You’ll help guests navigate sessions where they’ll hear from the Dean of Students and Student Life staff, learning all about clubs, campus events, health services, counseling, and safety resources. You may answer questions or help direct students to the right sessions so they can get the most out of their day.

If students are curious about residence life, you’ll help connect them with staff and direct them to our residence halls, where they’ll learn about living on campus and get a feel for their potential new home. You could also assist families as they meet with Financial Aid staff—making sure they get to their appointments to learn about FAFSA, tuition, and available support.

Most importantly, you’ll help create a welcoming, encouraging environment where no question is too small and everyone feels like part of the Golden Bear community. Plus, you’ll probably get to hand out some swag along the way!

If you are looking for reoccurring volunteer hours every week, look no further than the Ronald McDonald House Morgantown! We are searching for dedicated individuals to participate in our housewarming program. Volunteers are needed to help us take care of our house and our families! Some of the activities include:

1.      Cleaning family rooms and common spaces.

2.      Sorting and cleaning out the pantry and kitchen.

3.      Helping to organize various storage closets.

4.       Making welcome bags.

5.      Greeting guest families.

Volunteers are expected to work at least 15 hours a week and go through a short orientation before their first shift. Volunteer hours are available from 9am to 9pm, 7 days a week. Additional Information:

1.      You must be above the age of 18 and must complete both an application and a criminal background check before signing up for a shift.

2.      Two-hour shifts equal two credit hours and if documentation is needed for a class or program, it must be signed by either the Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator or the Family Services Director.

We are in need of 30 Peer Mentors for our program! Time commitment is 3 hours a week. You will be paired 1:1 with a student enrolled in the Autism Support Program and need to meet with them once week independently for 1 hour. You will also need to attend Peer Mentor group once a week for 1-2 hours. Peer Mentor Group is where we will socialize as a group with all Peer Mentors and students in the Autism Support Program.

Nationwide, we currently have more than 3,900 coaches signed up with First Tee, including PGA and LPGA pros, as well as volunteers. But you don’t have to be a golf pro or even a good golfer. With the First Tee Coach Program, we provide the training you need.

Developed with input from leading experts in the field of positive youth development, our program focuses on empowering participants through decision-making and exploring options. We are seeking assistance in proctoring exams at HSC. The HSC Accommodation Testing Center is a HSC embedded testing center for students with OAS testing accommodations.

Volunteer students will be responsible for checking in students, providing testing information, and proctoring exams.

Training and supports are both required and provided.

While we are seeking people for various times throughout the week, Tuesday and Thursdays are in highest demand.

The Ranch Community Store is a high-end donation-based thrift store providing gently used merchandise to the community.  All proceeds from the store go towards instilling hope and healing in the boys at Chestnut Mountain Ranch, a home and school for boys in crisis.

We are looking for volunteers to work shoulder-to-shoulder with our team (tasks including but not limited) to inspect, clean, sort, price, and put out donated merchandise on our salesfloor. We are willing to do interviews if needed for your class.

Collisions are most commonly caused by the reflective characteristics of glass. Because the outside of glass reflects the environment around it, birds do not recognize it as a barrier. The birds see the reflected environment, such as trees and sky, and collide with the glass assuming it is a clear flight path. Any window, large or small can be a killer.  CollidEscape is applied to the outside of a window so as to disrupt the reflection off the outside surface that birds perceive as a continuation of their environment.

Birds are frequently killed in these collisions or are stunned, only to die of internal injuries later. It is estimated that one billion birds die as a result of window collisions every year in the United States alone.

Mountaineer Food Bank holds Mobile Pantries across the state! A mobile pantry is a drive thru style food distribution, that serves our neighbors quickly and efficiently. Prior to receiving food, each household must be registered (signed-up). Shifting from using repetitive paper forms, the registration process is going digital! Using a tablet, we ask and enter in the neighbor's basic information. When they return in the future, we are able to search for them effortlessly and verify their information or make changes if needed.

**Training is REQUIRED to help with the registration process. Training can be done in person or via email.**   

Registering Volunteers will be using a tablet / smart device, speaking to people in vehicles, entering basic information into our secure database, and walking / standing for periods of time.   

These events happen OUTSIDE, please dress for the weather and wear closed-toe shoes. Water is provided.

These resilient students often fall behind due to the unpredictable nature of foster care, including frequent school changes that disrupt their learning and instability. With your help, we can change that.

Why We Need You

The EDIFY Program pairs volunteers with foster youth to offer academic support. As a college student, your knowledge across various subjects makes you well-qualified to help these students succeed. Many of our students require assistance with foundational skills in English Language Arts (ELA) and Math, and your support can help them catch up, build confidence, and reach their potential.

What You’ll Do

As a volunteer, you will meet virtually with a student 1-2 times weekly for one-hour sessions. Your responsibilities will include:

The Monongalia County Child Advocacy Center is excited to announce the launch of our campaign, "Build the Bounce," in celebration of our 20th anniversary. Our goal is to raise $100,000 throughout the year 2025. This campaign emphasizes the resilience of children who have faced abuse, neglect, and other traumas, highlighting their ability to "bounce back" with the right support and resources.

As a unique feature of the "Build the Bounce" campaign, the Kangaroo Klub invites supporters to take a leap in fundraising efforts. By completing one of our designated fundraiser sheets—either a calendar fundraiser or a kangaroo fundraising sheet where each kangaroo represents a donation milestone —you can join the exclusive ranks of the Kangaroo Klub. These fundraising sheets range from $100 to $1,000.

How to participate for volunteer hours:

Need job experience, but short on time? Spruce Street United Methodist Church needs only a few hours of light office help on Wednesday and Thursday mornings (11 a.m. to 1 p.m., flexible, but before 1 p.m.) with editing, copying, and paperwork; tidying the seating areas for worship on Sunday; possible software duties (Word and PowerPoint). We need dependable assistance, but will work around university holidays.

Upon entering the main entrance of Hazel's House of Hope you will see a concierge desk off to the right-hand side which is where you will be stationed for the shift. Should you have any questions on site please ask Maureen the Business Manager or other staff at Hazel's House of Hope.

Volunteers are welcome to do homework, use personal computers/cell phones, read books, eat, or other interests approved by staff to help pass the time while working the shift. The volunteer will be expected to assist patrons upon entry.

United Way Family Resource Network
Vision: The United Way Family Resource Network (UWFRN) is dedicated to improving the quality of life for Monongalia County’s children and families.

Mission: Encouraging and empowering our local community through parent leadership, community awareness, capacity building, and cooperative planning to create resilient and sustainable families in Monongalia County.

FRNs represent an important partnership between state government and local communities to identify current needs and develop an implementation plan to meet them. UWFRN serves as a primary coordinating and planning body for Monongalia County’s community service system. Rather than providing direct services, the UWFRN performs several important roles impacting children and families:
-Identifies community needs and gaps in services
-Builds community capacity to address identified needs
-Promotes public awareness regarding policies and issues

Goals
1. UWFRN will ensure that Monongalia County children and families have the necessary knowledge and resources to become or maintain stability.
2. UWFRN will ensure that Monongalia County children and families are safe and sustained.
3. UWFRN will ensure that Monongalia County children and families are educated toward the reduction of alcohol, drug, and tobacco misuse.
4. UWFRN will ensure that Monongalia County children and families are able to maintain positive nutritional behaviors impacting the health and wellness of our count.

UWFRN Advisory Board Members will:
1. As an Advisory member you must meet the needs of the people you serve (if applicable).
2. Advisory members, acting as a group, create the goals and action plan the program manager will implement and achieve.
3. Advisory members must ensure that their organization has adequate finances and that money is spent responsibly.
4. Advisory members must play an active role in supporting the program and the manager.
5. Advisory members, acting as the team, shall have a long-term written plan for the future of the program.
6. Advisory members shall attend board meetings and actively participate in service and at program events throughout the year.

We meet once a quarter on the first Tuesday of the month in the afternoon virtually. Advisory members must also attend the Mon County Family Resource Network Monthly Meeting. More info about that schedule can be found here on our Humanitix page.

Children and Family Leadership envisions Monongalia County as a county where all families are sustained, all children grow up free from abuse and neglect, all parents and caregivers have the knowledge and support needed to raise healthy children, and all communities promote the overall well-being of children through sound policies and systemic approach to keep them safe.

Mission:

Children and Family Leadership Council strives to be the vehicle of change in preventing child abuse and neglect, building awareness and understanding of the importance of early development to the future success of children, supporting and/or initiating public and private collaborations that improve and/or expand the current range of services for children and families.

Children and Family Leadership Strategic Objectives:

Early Childhood Education Partnerships- a collaborative effort to identify develop and implement responsive services to young children and families.

Child Abuse Prevention Awareness- increase awareness of the protective factors that contribute to healthy families, effective parenting, and prevention of child maltreatment.

Success by Six Initiative- a systematic approach to educate and increase awareness about the importance of early brain development.

The council is made up of local agency representatives and Monongalia County community members. We meet about once a month virtually to plan for events. Each cycle consists of about six in-person events outside of planning meetings which have historically included community baby showers, in-person training for the community, and more.

Council members ideally will participate in at least 75% of meetings and events.

HOPE Counselors are compassionate, kind-hearted, mature,
outgoing, and proactive. They have a significant impact
on a participant’s experience in year-round Pathways programs. They nurture close relations with participants, they are often the cheerleaders in the lives of
youth participants, and provide mentorship and guidance.

Recruitment for HOPE Counselors is year-round. We ask volunteers to committ to a minimum of 20 hours which includes required training and at least four Pathways mentorship events.  Volunteers may also assist with planning and preparation of Pathways activities. Our next volunteer training will occur in March and Pathways programming begins in April 2025. 

In 2026 HOPE Counselors will participate in overnight camp.

We serve a free meal to anyone who walks in the door Monday through Friday. You can help with food preparation, organizing, and cleaning. Whatever fits your fancy! Even if you can only come for an hour your help will be greatly appreciated.

Here are a few examples of our opportunities:

Garden Keepers meet on Thursday mornings during the busy season, and help to weed and maintain planting beds.

Hosts provide information and greater access to the Garden’s weekend visitors. Greet, meet, inform, and orient visitors from near and far. Weekend shifts are 10 a.m.-1:00pm and 2:00-5:00 p.m. Mentoring and guidelines are provided.

Lend a hand at the WVBG. Projects may include preparing, planting, or transplanting in new or existing gardens, pruning, invasive plant removal, and other hands-on projects. Join us on your own or contact us to organize a group work-day.

Program & walk volunteers help with tasks like signing-in attendees on a tablet, introducing the WVBG and the speaker, answering WVBG related questions, and assisting as needed. Training will be provided. Also, if you're a natural leader - feel free to share your knowledge and enthusiasm with WVBG visitors by become a Group Tour Leader, Educational/Interpretive Walk Leader, or Children’s Program Leader. If you have a specific skill, you could lead an Educational Workshop.

Work with our site director on a variety of more rigorous maintenance and building projects throughout the year.

Help us make each WVBG event a success. As part of an event committee you can assist with planning, including choosing activities, publicizing the event, organizing food, etc. You can also help during the event by running activities, organizing crowds, serving food, event set up and take down, and more.

Help the WVBG grow with financial support. Fund-raising may include production of materials for potential donors, making phone calls, and organizing fund-raising events and activities. Grant writing may include researching and identifying potential funders, as well as assistance with application organization and preparation.

Provide assistance with projects and ongoing WVBG administration. This could include organizing mailings, compiling information, writing and sending correspondence, updating databases, making plant labels, assisting with volunteer coordination, and other tasks as needed.

Position is by invitation only. This position will support the Ridge Way Farm's agriculture initiative through assistance with task such as study design, data collection, analysis, reporting, and presentation. 

Volunteer will assist and/or teach children ages 4-10. Lessons and crafts will be provided. Volunteers will complete Safe Sanctuaries training prior to being placed with children.

Various projects helping Art in the Libraries including serving on the committee (1 hour/month), helping with events, helping catalog inventory, helping draft text and designs, install exhibits, and more. Inquire for more information.

Help put together a monthly newsletter.

Help with cutting and folding weekly programs and mailings, as well as greeting people entering the church and helping the communications director manage incoming phone calls. 

Volunteers needed for Charity Week events, including: "Movie Night, Food Sale, Dodgeball, Speaker Event, Pickleball/Soccer tournament, and Calligraphy Night.

Sundale needs volunteers to answer the phones on evenings to make sure the residents never miss an important phone call from a family.

We need students or volunteers who are interested in coming in and providing activities for the residents.

Volunteers are needed to help nursing home residents with simple art projects and crafts. 

We also appreciate volunteers who make decorations for our residents' rooms and hallways.

We need donations of in-room activities for residents such as easy craft kits, large print puzzles and books, coloring books and crayons, etc.

Perform music, throw a party, set up a BINGO game, etc.  Volunteers are needed to plan and carry out group activities.

Volunteers will help set up and take flags and signs down in various locations.  Set up is at 7:30 am and take down is at 9:00 pm everyday. Downtown set up will be on Monday & Tuesday, Health Science's on Wednesday, and Evansdale on Thursday and Friday.

We are in need of volunteers that are willing to visit with hospice patients residing in local nursing home facilities.  Volunteer visits would provide companionship and socialization to the patients.  Volunteers are welcome to assist with group activities within the facility as well.  Schedule can be flexible and no set hours required.

If you are looking for an opportunity to work with kiddos while working on your skills or in need of hours in your field -- We are looking for individuals that can help in the areas of Physical, Occupational and Speech therapy. Hours of our school are 8am - 2:15pm.  We have a total of 9 students, several in need of working with a speech therapist, and several for physical and occupational therapy.

The Preston County Youth Center  (PCYC) has established a Micro School. We are looking for tutors in reading, math, and writing, just to give our kiddos a little extra help. We are looking at a time frame of Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The kids are in school from 8 am to 2:15pm.  We would love to have tutors come in and help out if possible.

Nursery workers are need for our nursery at Wesley United Methodist Church. 

Nursery workers will interact with children (birth through 3 years of age).  

Nursery workers will be required to interact with the children and change diapers or take children to the bathroom.  Workers will be required to put the nursery back in order before leaving for the volunteer time. 

CPR preferred and background checks are needed to work in the nursery.

SRSH works with local elementary, middle, and high schools to provide food bags every week.  Children in this program can discretely pick up a pack full of food for the weekend, and help to keep their bellies full until Monday. We welcome students to observe our Feeding and Swallowing Clinic. In fact, we have multiple students involved in clinic each week. Students here at Feeding Clinic represent a variety of majors including speech pathology, social work, nutrition, occupational therapy, physical therapy, medicine, pharmacy, law, education, counseling, nursing, psychology, and early intervention. During clinic, licensed mentors from SLP, OT, Psych, Social Work, Law, and Dietetics work together as a team to provide feeding assessments and needs assessments.

If you are interested in observing at Feeding Clinic, you will need to complete a registration form, HIPAA training, and Media Consent Form. Once you register via iServe, we will make the required documentation available to you.

The College of Creative Arts is looking for volunteer ushers to enhance the patron experience for performances, presentations and special events. Ushers arrive before the venue opens to the public to receive their assignment for the day and any special training needed. Then, under the direction of the house manager, ushers greet guests, scan tickets, help patrons to their seats, answer questions, and ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all in attendance.

We are seeking a volunteer skilled in the use of Apple products to teach OLLI members how to use their iPhones and iPads. Some teaching materials can be provided!

We are looking for an individual passionate about photography to help us document our classes and events at the Monongalia Arts Center. We want to use these images in promotional materials as well as have a visual record of our year of programming.

Volunteers assist in all areas at Health Right. Caring and qualified people work with patient charts, fill out applications for free medications, do clerical tasks, and help patients fill out applications and surveys.

We are looking for tutors in our 9th/10th grade technical writing class as well as our Pre-Algebra Class.  If you feel competent in either area, please volunteer below.

Both classes are held Mondays and Wednesdays from 1:30 to 3:00.
