Volunteer: Fall Community Clean Up

Join the City of Morgantown and take part in our 2026 Fall Clean-Up Day on Saturday, September 19. The event will run from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., with participants working at various locations across downtown Morgantown and surrounding areas.

Volunteers will assist with litter pickup, median maintenance, brush clearing and other beautification efforts.

Participants are asked to gather at Chancery Row, next to the Monongalia County Courthouse, where they will receive a brief safety orientation before heading to assigned cleanup sites.

"This is a great opportunity to not only clean up some of the main corridors of our downtown, but also meet new people, work together, and engage with others in the community," said Community Development Manager Caitlyn Lewis.

The city will provide all necessary safety equipment, including vests, gloves and tools. Organizers recommend volunteers wear long sleeves, long pants and sturdy footwear. Participants are also encouraged to bring sunscreen and water.

The event will be held rain or shine, and no prior registration is required.

For more information, contact clewis@morgantownwv.gov.

Volunteer: WVCIP SPAN Yard Sale Support

Every year, WVCIP participates in the annual SPAN (South Park Association of Neighbors) sale in South Park. We raise money to help our professionals by offering scholarships for travel and professional development. We could really use some help during the day to conduct the yard sale!

Volunteers can choose to spend the entire day helping with the yard sale, or any increment would be useful, even one hour of your time! We will have water available and will order pizza for lunch. Activities will consist of talking with customers, helping them with purchased items, and general organization of sale items.

For any questions, please email Paula Martinelli (paula.martinelli@mail.wvu.edu) or by phone at 304-319-1801.

Masks are no longer required at blood drives UNLESS the site hosting the drive requires them (hospitals, medical centers, etc) We are still doing our best to keep everyone waiting at a safe distance from each other. Our staff are wiping all of our equipment down with commercial-grade sanitizing wipes after every use.  If a blood drive is fully booked with appointments, we might not be able to accept walk-ins. However, we encourage you to stop in and see.

If you have any other questions, please call/text/email:

Volunteer: MESH Youth Tutor – Monongalia County Youth Reporting Center

MESH (Mentoring and Educational Support Hub) is a student-led tutoring initiative that connects WVU graduate student volunteers with middle and high school students who can benefit from additional academic support.

We are recruiting volunteer tutors to support students at the Monongalia County Youth Reporting Center (YRC) in Morgantown. Tutors may assist students in subjects that align with their knowledge and experience, including mathematics, science, engineering, English, writing, social studies, and other middle- and high-school subjects.

Tutoring sessions are held Monday through Friday from 3:00–5:00 p.m. Volunteers are not expected to participate every day and may select the weekday(s) that fit their schedules. Even volunteering for one afternoon per week can provide valuable consistency and academic support for participating students.

MESH tutors help students:

Understand course material and complete academic work

Practice problem-solving and study skills

Prepare for assignments and assessments

Build academic confidence and positive learning habits

Before working directly with youth participants, volunteers must complete all required onboarding and receive clearance. This includes WVU Youth Protection training, the required YRC background check, and MESH orientation. Completing an iServe response does not by itself authorize a volunteer to begin tutoring.

Tutors are expected to follow MESH, YRC, and applicable WVU youth-safety requirements, including maintaining appropriate professional boundaries, meeting supervision requirements, maintaining confidentiality, adhering to approved communication practices, and reporting attendance and hours. MESH's existing operating model similarly requires tutors to complete authorization and onboarding before direct contact with youth.

Who should volunteer?
WVU graduate students from all academic disciplines are encouraged to participate. Prior formal tutoring experience is helpful but not required. We are especially looking for volunteers who are dependable, patient, encouraging, and comfortable helping middle and high school students learn.

Volunteer: OPERATION ACTIVET 6th ANNUAL VETERANS BASH

Our 6th annual Veterans Bash will take place on October 3rd at Mylan Park.  This year, we are going to bring the volunteers in at 9 am.  The doors will open at 11 am, and the main drawings will start at 1 pm.  The bash is also an event where multiple raffles will be going on at the same time.  Some volunteers will be responsible for restocking items, while the majority will be on the floor selling chances for various games throughout the event. We bring everyone in early so that all volunteers receive clear direction and can ask any questions they may have about their assigned tasks. The event will be catered, so the only tasks are to refill the coffee pots, drink bins, and snacks.  All food and drink are provided for volunteers.  Volunteers are also welcome to work as many hours as they like, because the bash goes until 6 pm.  We don't expect everyone to work the entire day; we prefer that the volunteers do at least 4 hours.  If some volunteers would prefer to come in the afternoon, we can accommodate them as well.

We’d love to welcome you as a volunteer!

WIC has a community clothing closet to serve the participants in our area.  We have donations of clothing and baby items that need organized and hung up in our closet.  This closet has been a huge success with our participants and a valued resource in the community.

Having an individual or group to help organize and manage the closet weekly would be so beneficial to WIC participants.

Volunteer: Community Action Poverty Simulation 11/16/2026

A Poverty Simulation is a true-to-life role-playing experience for groups and organizations to experience first-hand the challenges, decisions, and life of someone in poverty. We are looking for volunteers who can help act out various institutions that groups and organizations will interact with during the simulation.

Groups will be faced with daily decisions ranging from how to get the kids to school on time, find or maintain employment, visit the assistance office or church, pay your bills, and keep a roof over your head...all in the span of a few hours. Each 15 minute period of time accounts for exactly one week, and within that week and the three that follow, groups will learn what poverty really looks like and how it can impact every daily decision to be made.

Poverty Simulations are thought provoking and lead to powerful conversations, and they help us all realize that it takes a community to end poverty.

Volunteers are needed to help with the following parts of the poverty simulation: portraying a community service entity. Our simulations portray people interacting with housing agencies, financial institutions, schools, community health centers, and infrastructure providers. Our volunteer actors will be briefed on their role in the hour prior to the event with instructions on how to effectively act out their part.

Your time commitment for this opportunity is 3 hours. All simulations will occur at the WVU Health Sciences Center.  More information will be provided to you via email 1 week prior to the simulation. We thank you in advance for your time and commitment!

Volunteer: Volunteers Drivers and Riders Needed to Deliver Meals on Wheels

Morgantown Area Meals on Wheels (MAMOW) serves those who have difficulty shopping for food or cooking nutritious meals, regardless of age or income.  MAMOW delivers nutritious meals each day Monday - Friday at an affordable cost to the customer, enabling those who are able, to stay at home in a familiar environment.  We also offer shelf-stable meals for the weekend. Drivers and Riders (Riders ride with Drivers and assist Drivers delivering meals) typically pick up meals about 9:45 am, 1 day/week, Mon - Fri and finish deliveries & return coolers by about 11:30 am. Drivers & Riders run the same route each week. Route Coordinators can be very flexible about how frequently Drivers participate each month. Groups of Drivers or Riders can run a route, i.e. 4 volunteers can run a route on, say Tuesday, taking turns as single drivers or as Drivers + Riders. And some Drivers only drive a route 1 or 2 days/month.  Click HERE to view Volunteer Requirements and click "Apply to Volunteer" to complete and submit a Driver/Rider Application.   Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a 'no contact' policy for delivering meals, as well as other measures, have been adopted to keep drivers, clients and cooks safe. These measures will be sent to those who volunteer to deliver meals.
