Description

Americorps VISTA members from The VISTA Collaborative at West Virginia University (WVU) are serving on 9/11, and you can, too!

September 11th is Patriot Day and a National Day of Service and Remembrance. On this day Americans across the country are called to volunteer in their local communities in tribute to the individuals lost and injured in the attacks, first responders, and the many who have risen in service to defend freedom.

VISTAs will be gardening at Friends of Deckers Creek (FODC)'s Outdoor Learning Park behind the Sabraton Kroger this Patriot Day alongside folks from United Way of Monongalia and Preston Counties. Volunteers will tend to wildflowers, herbs, vegetable garden, and more! Duties will include: pulling weeds, tidying garden, removing invasive plant species, picking up trash, and other general gardening tasks.

This service opportunity will run from 10am-2pm Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at the FODC's Outdoor Learning Park BEHIND the Sabraton Kroger.  Please wear clothing you don't mind getting dirty, tennis shoes, any WVU gear you have, and bring water!

For more details on how to participate in this service project, contact VISTA Leader, Cecily Flight, at ccflight@mail.wvu.edu or Community Engagement Manager, Servando R. Arredondo III, at servando@unitedwaympc.org; (304) 296-7525.
