Ready for some fun in your next volunteer experience? Consider spending some time with your friends during Santa's Village at Crossroads Mall. The Beckley Art Center will offer a "Make and Take" art activity for area youth. This year, we will guide children in creating a "Thanksgiving Turkey", and we need your help! This event is expected to see a turnout of nearly 500 area children. We need helpers to assist withthe following tasks:
*Prepare art supplies prior to the event (cutting shapes from colored construction paper), counting containers, etc. at the Beckley Art Center, 600 Johnstown Road, Beckley, WV 25801.
* Set up our "Art Space" at the Crossroads Mall the morning of Saturday, November 12. We will be set up at the Old Bank Office near the front door of the mall. Meet at 9:30 to help set-up. Event will start at 10 a.m.
*Encouraging children as they construct their art. You might be asked to help a child in outlining their hand on paper using a marker, assist the child with using glue to adhere paper "feathers" to the turkey, and assist them in writing a brief message on the back of their turkey about what they are thankful for. Helpers should be people who enjoy the creative process, who are patient (experience with children - your own, siblings, or other family members helpful).
* Staff a "Clean Up Station" for kids to use moist wipes to clean their hands, and replace trash liners of collected trash as needed.
* Pack up all unused supplies following the event at 2 pm. We will be set up in the Old Bank Office at Crossroads Mall.
