Over the past several months, WV Citizen Action Group, alongside WV FREE and WV Rivers Coalition, has been working on a campaign called Women & Water. We've contacted hundreds of voters to discuss the importance of strong water protections and voting to "change the current".
With the primary election fast approaching and the weather warming up, our final phase of the campaign is to remind voters to turn out to the polls and to literally make our water cleaner. Therefore, on Saturday, April 30th we will be hosting a GOTV & Stream Clean-up event in Big Chimney.
Anyone is welcome to join us! We'll meet at Hardee's in Big Chimney at 10 am to pass out non-partisan materials about water protections and voting. At 11 am, we will leave Hardee's and go to the Park & Ride off the Big Chimney exit on I-79. Pizza will be provided for lunch at this location! After eating, we will clean-up the bank alongside Cooper's Creek, which is in a Zone of Critical Concern (learn more about this term and other details on water protections in this Citizen's Guide to Drinking Water Protection) starting at the Park & Ride and going as far as we can till 2 pm.
No experience is needed, and materials will be provided. We ask everyone to dress appropriately for the weather and bring rain boots or shoes you don't mind getting wet, as there are locations along the creek where you will have to get in the water.
