This need includes 4 different needs (listed #1-4) associated with WVU Lyon Tower Fri, February 23 and Sat, February 24. If you respond to this need, be sure to specify which specific need you are volunteering for; the number of volunteers needed will be updated daily.

#1 Soup and Bread Transport

15 – 20 Volunteers total are needed for Soup and Bread Transport on Friday, February 23, before the Bread and Soup Luncheon. All positions are FULL.

Transport typically occurs between 2 and 4 PM. Transport volunteers drive to 3 – 5 restaurants, in the same general area, pickup soup and bread donated by the restaurants and deliver the soup and bread to the loading dock at the back of WVU Towers. Restaurants are primarily located in the following areas: Suncrest, Cheat Lake, Westover, Waterfront, Sabraton, Grafton Road and Star City.

Transport Volunteers must have a vehicle to transport soup and breads – vehicles like pickup trucks are ideal as, while soup containers are covered with lids, at times a bit of the soup may spill from the containers. Transport Volunteers must also be able to lift up to 5 gal of soup.

 

 #2 SOUP RECEIVING – WVU TOWERS

All of these positions are FULLhelp at WVU Lyons Towers loading dock to receive soup and bread that is brought by drivers on Friday, February, 23, 2 – 4 pm. Heavy lifting is required, moving soup containers from vehicles into the WVU Food Service refrigerators at Towers. Containers may need to be labeled.

 

#3 KETTLE WORKERS

Positions are FULL at WVU Towers Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 7:00 AM; Kettle Workers will finish working by noon. Kettle Workers will:

  • Assist Cooks in loading soups into the steam kettles to be reheated.

  • Assist Cooks in unloading heated soups into pans for transportation.

  • Clean kettles in-between batches.

  • After all soups are heated they will assist cooks in cleaning up area.

  • Workers will be required to wear a hat or hair restraint in the kitchen; feel free to bring your own hat.

  • Workers should have closed toed shoes. The environment may be a little wet; clothing and shoes may get a bit dirty, so dress appropriately.

  • Gloves and Aprons will be supplied by the worksite.

#4 SOUP EXPEDITION – WVU TOWERS

All positions are FULL, to work in the Lyon Towers kitchen, making sure labels are properly attached to the correct soup containers.
