The City of Morgantown is looking for approximately 20 volunteers to assist with an airport emergency exercise on Thursday, July 16, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
This year's exercise will involve a suspicious unattended bag reported inside the terminal. The scenario is designed to evaluate how airport staff, TSA, law enforcement, fire, and MECCA communicate and respond during the initial stages of a potential threat.
What to Expect: Volunteers will portray airline passengers inside the terminal. At some point during the exercise, an unattended bag will be reported to airport personnel.
Once the suspicious bag is reported, airport staff will begin evacuating passengers from the terminal. Please follow all instructions given by airport staff and first responders promptly and calmly.
Some volunteers may be asked to answer basic questions from law enforcement as part of the exercise if they were in the area of the bag or are identified as potential witnesses.
If you are designated as the individual who left the bag, you may be temporarily "detained" and questioned by law enforcement as part of the scenario.
Please understand that this is only acting and is intended to simulate a realistic response. In an actual incident, law enforcement would likely review surveillance footage and conduct their investigation after the initial evacuation rather than immediately pursuing a suspect.
