Description

This course provides a useful context for people new to substance abuse prevention and mental health promotion. Regardless of the settings where you work or learn, this information will help to prepare you to prevent substance abuse and promote wellness.

 


Upon completing this course, you will be able to:

  • Define basic terminology related to substance abuse
  • Identify how the history of substance use and prevention in the United States has influenced the field today
  • Explain the impact of substance use on the brain and how addiction occurs
  • Describe different substances, their effects, and their health risks

 

This course can be completed within five hours, although the length of time will vary depending on your familiarity with the content, your learning style and study habits, and competing demands on your time. You can leave the course at any time, but remember the page you were on so that you can return to it later.

The last module "Course Resources" includes additional resources and websites that support substance abuse prevention.

Once you finish the assessment and feedback survey at the end of the course, you will receive a Certificate of Completion. Download the Certificate as verification that you have completed the course.
