Hours of Operation: Monday through Thursday, 9 am-4 pm; Friday, 9 am-2 pm. Hours are flexible as needed/classes dictate.

Help adults reach their personal, professional, and educational goals by improving their English or basic literacy skills. As a tutor, you'll meet with your learner for at least one hour a week and report their progress monthly.

No experience? No problem! We provide Pro-Literacy training, materials, and lesson plans to get you started. Once trained, you'll be a certified Pro-Literacy tutor!

Interested? We'll send you an email with more details and an invite to a Zoom info session. Signing up is easy—just fill out an application and provide three references. We ask for at least a 12-week commitment.

Our Community Wrapping Parties bring together folks from all walks of life to help get books into the hands of incarcerated readers across Appalachia. Attendees can expect to spend the duration of the event packaging and addressing books for mailing.

Mural has been projected and traced onto the walls in "The Neighborhood" children's and youth space.  Artistic volunteers are needed to paint the mural's animals.

The College of Creative Arts is looking for volunteer ushers to enhance the patron experience for performances, presentations and special events. Ushers arrive before the venue opens to the public to receive their assignment for the day and any special training needed. Then, under the direction of the house manager, ushers greet guests, scan tickets, help patrons to their seats, answer questions, and ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all in attendance.

WVU Medicine/WVU Hospitals accepts student volunteers three times per year - spring semester, summer and fall semester.  Each semester will have specific application enrollment periods and students must apply during these times.  We currently place volunteers in 45 different locations throughout Ruby Memorial Hospital and some offsite locations.  If you are interested please review our website at www.wvumedicine.org/volunteers for the next enrollment period before signing up for this need.

The Ronald McDonald House Morgantown is looking for volunteers to cook meals for our families. The Meals from the Heart program allows volunteers to use our double-sided kitchen to provide meals, either breakfast, lunch, or dinner for our families. Volunteers must provide all of the ingredients needed for the meal but are welcome to use the equipment in the kitchen. Meal prep can provide a variety of ideal experiences for volunteer groups of all ages. Whether you are seeking team building experience for employees, a learning experience for an eager scout troop or are just looking for an opportunity to give back in your community; Meals from the Heart can suit your needs.

This is for a volunteer income tax preparer position. We have locations in Morgantown, Fairmont, Preston County, Clarksburg and several other locations throughout the state. We prepare basic income taxes for low to moderate income families. 

This is a great way to serve local communities and to keep tax refund money within the community. 

It can be in person or remote. It is practical experience preparing taxes. You will learn about basic income tax preparation during the course of this. 

The timeframe is late January to Early April, approximately 4-5 hours weekly for a ten-week period.

What We Do: Build and develop the WoW student lounge in the downtown library. Help with a variety of tasks needed, can be catered to your interests. Some examples of tasks done in the past: building zine kits, making flyers, monitoring remote control car usage, putting “grab n go” kits together, etc.

Who we are: The lounge is a safe space for students, by students. It aims to be a place where students can access various mental health and well being resources while also relaxing and having fun. The lounge encourages creativity and activism by having a crafting area for students to utilize and providing a place where they can express themselves.

We are in need of 30 Peer Mentors for our program! Time commitment is 3 hours a week. You will be paired 1:1 with a student enrolled in the Autism Support Program and need to meet with them once week independently for 1 hour. You will also need to attend Peer Mentor group once a week for 1-2 hours. Peer Mentor Group is where we will socialize as a group with all Peer Mentors and students in the Autism Support Program.

We are looking for a volunteer to visit/chat with a resident who speaks Italian.

With the busy schedules of our social workers, we need help keeping our office clean! This would entail sweeping, mopping, cleaning bathrooms, tidying up kitchen and main areas, etc. 

We are looking for volunteers who would like to help with basic tasks at the shop and assist in cleaning and refurbishing used bikes that we will repair to give away to kids.

Need job experience, but short on time? Spruce Street United Methodist Church needs only a few hours of light office help on Wednesday and Thursday mornings (11 a.m. to 1 p.m., flexible, but before 1 p.m.) with editing, copying, and paperwork; tidying the seating areas for worship on Sunday; possible software duties (Word and PowerPoint). We need dependable assistance, but will work around university holidays.

If you are looking for an opportunity to work with kiddos while working on your skills or in need of hours in your field -- We are looking for individuals that can help in the areas of Physical, Occupational and Speech therapy. Hours of our school are 8am - 2:15pm.  We have a total of 9 students, several in need of working with a speech therapist, and several for physical and occupational therapy.

The Preston County Youth Center  (PCYC) has established a Micro School. We are looking for tutors in reading, math, and writing, just to give our kiddos a little extra help. We are looking at a time frame of Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The kids are in school from 8 am to 2:15pm.  We would love to have tutors come in and help out if possible.

Head to the Salvation Army at 2871 Robert C. Byrd Drive to volunteer in their Food Pantry. They have one of the first choice food pantries in the area. 

Opportunities are available Monday through Friday between 9 AM and 3 PM. 

We need help manning our front desk! This position is pretty low key - bring a book or your laptop, and welcome folks when they come to visit our gallery. We are located downtown, on High Street in the Historic Post Office.

Share your video and computer skills:  Camera, Streaming, and/or PowerPoint operation at Spruce Street United Methodist Church during Sunday worship services (10:45 a.m. to Noon). Camera operators capture live camera footage during the service. Previous experience in audio/video equipment control is preferred but is not required as training will be provided. PowerPoint operators follow the bulletin and cues from speakers and accompanists. Reliable, responsible individuals are necessary. We accommodate student schedules (university holidays).

SRSH works with local elementary, middle, and high schools to provide food bags every week.  Children in this program can discretely pick up a pack full of food for the weekend, and help to keep their bellies full until Monday. Come help us pack these bags with food to hand out to the schools. We welcome volunteers Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 9-2. The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at WVU is seeking a volunteer to teach an introductory course on American Sign Language to a group of older adults.

An affiliate of the School of Public Health, OLLI at WVU is a membership organization that offers non-credit courses in a wide variety of topics, designed for adults 50 years and older, simply for the joy of learning.  Classes are offered in-person at the Mountaineer Mall in Morgantown and/or on Zoom. We are looking for an individual passionate about photography to help us document our classes and events at the Monongalia Arts Center. We want to use these images in promotional materials as well as have a visual record of our year of programming.

We are looking for tutors in our 9th/10th grade technical writing class as well as our Pre-Algebra Class.  If you feel competent in either area, please volunteer below.

Both classes are held Mondays and Wednesdays from 1:30 to 3:00.

West Virginia Academy is looking for an afterschool coach for our PreK through 5th graders.  We want to offer a sports class to help our youngest scholars get active and moving afterschool.  If you are interested, please sign up below.

WVUCFG is looking for a budding public relations, graphic design and social media specialist to create content for social media (Facebook, IG, and TikTok), websites, news articles, flyers, and more. Photography and Videography are required, so having professional equipment is a huge plus, but not required! Experience in Canva, Adobe products, CleanSlate, and other media design programs are a huge plus. 

This work will span over the 2024 Growing Season--February 2024 to November 2024. Semester-based appointments will be considered.

The volunteer will improve the quality of sketches scanned from the journals of George Bird Evans.   The sketches will be enhanced for use in publications.   

Help Mountaineer Spay Neuter Assistance Program (M-SNAP) reduce pet overpopulation and the killing of homeless pets.  M-SNAP addresses this problem by managing a voucher program that helps pet caregivers get their animals fixed.  We fund this program with the proceeds from ReTails, our thrift store located in the Morgantown Mall in Westover.  We have volunteer opportunities 7 days a week. It takes lots of hands and we need YOURS.  If you care, share some of your free time with ReTails.  We train and offer flexible schedules.

Please do not apply unless you can commit to 3 hours per week for a minimum of 4 months.     

Conversations to Remember's virtual visit program matches 2-3 college students with residents of long-term care, assisted living, and memory care communities for virtual video visits. These residents have been suffering from isolation, and you could really brighten their days just by speaking with them. We provide training about the best ways to interact with the seniors, as well as additional support throughout your service. Since these visits are virtual, you can do it without any travel. This is both convenient, and allows more of your time to be spent volunteering, rather than commuting to the volunteering location. We provide this program free of charge to seniors across the country, and have students from around the country as well.

Typically, students volunteer 1-2 hours per week. Each call lasts up to one hour, based on the senior's attention span and mood on each day. We expect students to volunteer for approximately 16 weeks, so that they can build a friendship with the senior. This does not need to coincide with the start of a semester, as we have new seniors starting all the time, and train new volunteers weekly. Students are matched based on the times that they're available, with a senior who is available at the same time, and will have a regular, weekly appointment for their visit. Students wishing for more visits or other opportunities that allow them to volunteer more hours can be accommodated with different ways to volunteer, such as assisting us with our social media, call support, or outreach.

Morgantown Unity Manor is a high-rise for low-income seniors. Though we are an independent living facility, we aim to bring as much fun to our resident's lives as possible! We are looking for volunteers who are willing to come to our building and facilitate activities in our multi-purpose room. This could be crafts, chair yoga, fun info sessions, trivia, dance or music acts, etc. It can be a one-time thing or a regular occurrence. The possibilities are endless! We have a smart TV that is connected to Wi-Fi, a DVD player, a kitchen, and a patio with a large, covered gazebo that can be utilized. 

Note: Please consider the unique interests and needs of population you will be interacting with as well as the many barriers they face. Many of our residents experience health and mobility issues and several utilize wheelchairs, scooters, and walkers. Any printed text should be 25 point font and easy to read. While not the majority, keep in mind that some of our residents cannot read so you will need to offer alternative ways for them to access your activity (pictures, icons, verbal instructions, etc). 

Once you express interest in volunteering, the Service Coordinator will reach out to you to discuss your idea. When it is approved, you will be scheduled to come out. It is best to give at least 2-3 weeks notice to ensure the word gets out and you have as many participants as possible!

Preparing crafts for the rooms, assisting with materials for lesson plans, general office duties 

Do you enjoy working with children?  We in need of volunteers for our 11am Sunday service to help with classes for kids ages 6 months-5th grade.  You must complete a background check that we will send to you before serving.  We look forward to working with you!

We have a large number of files that require updated organization as a foundation for developing comprehensive data to be used in budget negotiations within our Department and the Legislature; and to better promote our existence to health service employees; public and corporate entities; and the greater public at large.  

We are also tasked with fund raising and this will require an intelligently designed social media platform that will help us become better known throughout the State.  Ideally, this would also publicize our need for funding and motivate increased donations, contributions and grants. Volunteers would research, identify and perform the initial application documentation for funding and suggest/develop other opportunities for raising funds such as special events.

Some of this work could be handled remotely, with onsite interaction in Charleston, WV necessary for other needed assistance.

Harmony at Morgantown has a neighborhood called Harmony Square. Harmony Square is a secured memory care unit, our unit can hold up to 36 residents. We need volunteers to help with playing games with our residents, reading them short stories, or maybe even doing a one on one visit in the apartment.  

Please stop by the front desk to get your temperature checked and then you will be directed to my office on the 2nd floor, to fill out a volunteer packet. The volunteer packet is just basic information.  

The Morgantown Fire Department is building an ongoing partnership with WVU iServe users that would be interested in assisting with home fire safety visits.  The home safety visits are conducted within the community to raise fire safety awareness.  During a typical visit, we share common fire threats and try to identify any current risks.  We check smoke alarms, and if the resident is without or in need of new smoke alarms, we will install them free of charge.  Home safety visits would consist of a uniformed firefighter and iServe users. 

This training opportunity, would provide students with the basics of home fire safety including checking and installing new smoke alarms.  By attending a training workshop, iServe users would get two hours of community service credit.  The workshops will be offered monthly or bi-monthly to meet the demand of iServe users.  The workshops will be scheduled on Wednesday evenings or Friday mid mornings as needed.  Once the students have attended the workshop, they will be eligible to participate in the home fire safety visits.  The visits are also an ongoing iServe opportunity for community service hours.

Volunteers at Compass are part of the heart of our mission. Volunteers with Compass can expect to work in a variety of capacities at Compass depending on the individuals strengths. The CASA volunteer’s primary responsibility is to serve as the “eyes and ears” of the Court, gathering information from the child, his/her biological parents, foster parents, teachers, counselors, etc. and make recommendations to the judge as to what is in the child’s best interest.

Advocates generally visit monthly with the child/youth. When the Court appoints a CASA volunteer to work with a child, these visits are just the beginning. The primary role of a Court Appointed Special Advocate is to:

Determine the needs of the child by reading the child’s entire welfare file, connecting with teachers, foster parents, social workers, doctors, mental health professionals, relatives, parents, attorneys– everyone involved in the child’s life throughout the case.

Facilitate social services and community resources to meet the needs of the child.

Advocate for the child’s needs to be met promptly and thoroughly. Write thorough, accurate court reports.

Monitor to ensure team members follow through on meeting the child’s needs.

Be trusted support for the child. In the sea of ever-changing faces, the CASA volunteer is the one person the child knows will keep coming back – each and every week.

There are no educational or professional requirements, but advocates must be 21 years old. Volunteers are carefully screened and receive 30 hours of training before being assigned to children.
