Volunteer Needs From: WVU Center for Community Engagement

The Community Baby Shower is a family-centered event designed to celebrate and support expecting parents and families with infants by connecting them to local resources, education, and essential items for their growing families. Held on June 6th at the Wiles Hill Community Center, the event brings together community partners and service providers to create a welcoming space where families can access support, build connections, and feel celebrated.

Your help during the setup day is an important part of making the event a success. Volunteers will assist with unloading a truck of tables and chairs, setting up the event space, and helping build decorative elements such as the photo arch and other displays throughout the venue. We recommend wearing comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes, as there will be lifting, carrying, and moving involved. Water and light snacks will be available during setup.

Volunteers are essential to making this event a success. Opportunities are available throughout the day, including assisting with event set-up, supporting families and vendors during the event, and helping with tear-down. Volunteers will play a key role in creating a positive, organized, and supportive environment for all attendees.

Set Up 9-12 

Set-up volunteers will help prepare the Wiles Hill Community Center for the event. Responsibilities include arranging tables and chairs, setting tables, assisting with decorations, and helping vendors get settled into their spaces. This role is perfect for individuals who enjoy hands-on work and being part of bringing an event to life.

Event Support 12-3

Event support volunteers will assist throughout the duration of the event to ensure everything runs smoothly. Responsibilities include helping participants with raffles, assisting with carrying items to vehicles, taking photos, and providing general support to families and vendors. This role is ideal for those who enjoy engaging with the community and creating a welcoming atmosphere.

Tear Down 3-5 

Tear-down volunteers will help wrap up the event by taking down tables, chairs, decorations, and assisting with general clean-up of the space. This role is great for individuals who want to support the full event experience and ensure the space is left in good condition.

General help around the office, including:

-processing fabric for an upcoming event 

-administrative tasks 

-assisting the FRN with program development 

-other duties as assigned

Calling Monongalia County community members who want to make a difference in the lives of local children and families! 

United Way Family Resource Network
Vision: The United Way Family Resource Network (UWFRN) is dedicated to improving the quality of life for Monongalia County’s children and families.

Mission: Encouraging and empowering our local community through parent leadership, community awareness, capacity building, and cooperative planning to create resilient and sustainable families in Monongalia County.

FRNs represent an important partnership between state government and local communities to identify current needs and develop an implementation plan to meet them. UWFRN serves as a primary coordinating and planning body for Monongalia County’s community service system. Rather than providing direct services, the UWFRN performs several important roles impacting children and families:
-Identifies community needs and gaps in services
-Builds community capacity to address identified needs
-Promotes public awareness regarding policies and issues

Goals
1. UWFRN will ensure that Monongalia County children and families have the necessary knowledge and resources to become or maintain stability.
2. UWFRN will ensure that Monongalia County children and families are safe and sustained.
3. UWFRN will ensure that Monongalia County children and families are educated toward the reduction of alcohol, drug, and tobacco misuse.
4. UWFRN will ensure that Monongalia County children and families are able to maintain positive nutritional behaviors impacting the health and wellness of our count.

UWFRN Advisory Board Members will:
1. As an Advisory member you must meet the needs of the people you serve (if applicable).
2. Advisory members, acting as a group, create the goals and action plan the program manager will implement and achieve.
3. Advisory members must ensure that their organization has adequate finances and that money is spent responsibly.
4. Advisory members must play an active role in supporting the program and the manager.
5. Advisory members, acting as the team, shall have a long-term written plan for the future of the program.
6. Advisory members shall attend board meetings and actively participate in service and at program events throughout the year.

We meet once a quarter on the first Tuesday of the month in the afternoon virtually. Advisory members must also attend the Mon County Family Resource Network Monthly Meeting. More info about that schedule can be found here on our Humanitix page.

Join the Children and Family Leadership Council and help shape a better future for Monongalia County. This is your chance to collaborate with like-minded individuals to protect and strengthen families and make a difference in the lives of local children.

Vision: 

Children and Family Leadership envisions Monongalia County as a county where all families are sustained, all children grow up free from abuse and neglect, all parents and caregivers have the knowledge and support needed to raise healthy children, and all communities promote the overall well-being of children through sound policies and systemic approach to keep them safe.

Mission:

Children and Family Leadership Council strives to be the vehicle of change in preventing child abuse and neglect, building awareness and understanding of the importance of early development to the future success of children, supporting and/or initiating public and private collaborations that improve and/or expand the current range of services for children and families.

Children and Family Leadership Strategic Objectives:

Early Childhood Education Partnerships- a collaborative effort to identify develop and implement responsive services to young children and families.

Child Abuse Prevention Awareness- increase awareness of the protective factors that contribute to healthy families, effective parenting, and prevention of child maltreatment.

Success by Six Initiative- a systematic approach to educate and increase awareness about the importance of early brain development.

The council is made up of local agency representatives and Monongalia County community members. We meet about once a month virtually to plan for events. Each cycle consists of about six in-person events outside of planning meetings which have historically included community baby showers, in-person training for the community, and more.

Council members ideally will participate in at least 75% of meetings and events.
