Mountaineer Area Rescue Group

Who We Are

The Mountaineer Area Rescue Group performs wilderness search and rescue (SAR) in the Appalachian Region. We search for and, when found, stabilize and evacuate lost persons in wilderness and wildland-urban interface environments. On request, we also assist other agencies with missing person or other incidents requiring our inherent SAR capabilities.

What We Do

The Mountaineer Area Rescue Group is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to serving the community by providing a skilled search and rescue resource for lost and missing person cases throughout the region.

MARG is constantly seeking new members, whether the individual is interested in search, rescue, or assisting with non-emergency activities. In order to maintain the high level of service that MARG provides to the community, new members are essential to our operations.

All MARG field members are experienced in outdoors activities, with training in land navigation, wilderness and emergency medicine, wilderness survival, and mountain rescue.  Training and certifications of Mountaineer Area Rescue Group members meets strict ASRC standards.  Administrative, medical, communications, and base management members support our field operations.  Most members train and become certified in field operations, but we are also looking for members who can assist with administration.

If this seems overwhelming, not to worry. MARG will train you so that you can safely and effectively serve your community as a search and rescue volunteer. You just need to be enthusiastic and have a desire to help lost and missing persons and their families. If you are interested in joining or helping, call, write, or come to a meeting or training session.
